Dear Friends of Harvest Haven
As autumn settles in with its gentle breeze and golden hues, our hearts are filled with gratitude and joy! Looking back on September, each week at Harvest Haven overflowed with energy, connection, and warmth.
On September 25, we hosted a vibrant Mid-Autumn Festival celebration during our Mandarin Senior Fellowship, beautifully decorated and joyfully attended by nearly 60 seniors. The event featured poetry readings, singing, fan dancing, folk dancing, worship aerobics, waltzing, and a live tai chi sword demonstration by James. We ended the day with fun games, riddles, a lucky draw, and of course, sharing mooncakes! We were honored to welcome a Cerritos City Councilmember and Miss Newport Beach to join us in the festivities, making it a truly heartwarming and memorable gathering. With the holidays just around the corner—Halloween, Thanksgiving, and Christmas—you may already feel that festive buzz in the air. Have you started planning yet? Here at Harvest Haven, we’re also preparing for a season filled with meaningful gatherings and joyful celebrations. Stay tuned and mark your calendars—you won’t want to miss what’s coming!
To help our seniors confidently engage with today’s technology, we’re excited to present the second session of our popular “E-world Workshop” on Saturday, October 25, from 2:00–4:00 PM. Led by Eric Siu, MBA in Information and Financial Applications, this hands-on workshop will focus on Apple iPhone features and everyday uses of ChatGPT. Eric will guide participants step-by-step through practical tools such as: sending emergency location signals without a phone number, translating while traveling, finding the best local prices, voice-to-text for note-taking, using Siri for reminders and calendars, turning handwritten notes or photos into text, and how ChatGPT can enhance daily problem-solving and communication. More than 150 people joined us last time—don’t miss this opportunity to learn, grow, and stay connected in today’s tech-driven world! Be sure to save and share the flyer with your friends.

Looking ahead, we’re also pleased to invite you to a very important Health Seminar on Saturday, November 15, 2:00–4:00 PM, titled:“Do You Have Sarcopenia?” As we age, muscle loss—known as sarcopenia—can quietly reduce mobility, independence, and increase the risk of falls and hospitalization. To help our seniors better understand and prevent this condition, we’re honored to welcome Professor Jenny Niu, a renowned expert from Taiwan with a doctorate in Health Promotion and Nutrition Education. With over 30 years of teaching and research experience, Prof. Niu will share the latest insights on diet, exercise, and practical strategies for regaining strength and vitality. Known for her approachable style and real-life application, this seminar is a must for anyone caring for their own health or the health of their loved ones.
In addition to these events, our weekly programs continue to bring joy and enrichment to our community. Join us for Monday’s Line Dance, Tuesday’s Tai Chi & Tai Chi Sword, Wednesday and Thursday Senior Fellowships, Saturday’s Knitting Club, and our one-on-one Computer & Smartphone coaching. These weekly gatherings give our seniors something to look forward to—whether it’s learning, dancing, singing, or simply sharing a meal in loving company.

隨著秋意漸濃、微風送爽，我們滿懷感恩地回顧九月的點滴。在喜禾，每一週都充滿活力與溫馨，笑聲、舞步和彼此的陪伴交織成許多美好回憶。9月25日，國語長者聚會舉辦了溫馨熱鬧的中秋慶典，張燈結綵、共聚一堂，近60位長者參與。活動包括詩詞欣賞、合唱、響扇舞、土風舞、讚美操、華爾滋舞，還有 James 的太極劍表演、猜燈謎與抽獎遊戲、月餅分享。特別感謝 Cerritos 市議員與新港小姐親臨現場，與我們一同歡慶佳節，為活動增添溫情與光彩！(點擊查看更多活動照片)
進入十月，您是否已經感受到萬聖節、感恩節、聖誕節的節日氛圍？喜禾也正在籌備一系列溫馨又有意義的年末活動，誠摯邀請您預留時間，踴躍參加！
為幫助長者熟悉手機與人工智慧的應用，我們將於10月25日（星期六）下午2:00–4:00舉辦第二場廣受歡迎的《智慧手機資訊講座》。這次主題聚焦於Apple iPhone 的功能應用與 ChatGPT 的日常活用技巧，由Eric Siu 老師（MBA資訊與財務應用管理碩士）主講。他將透過深入淺出的講解與互動教學，幫助長者學習：如何在沒有電話號碼時求援定位、旅遊時使用手機翻譯與比價、語音轉文字記錄生活瑣事、運用 Siri 提醒與日程管理、如何將圖片或手寫筆記轉為文字摘要、以及初步了解 ChatGPT 如何提升生活便利與解決問題。講座實用又精彩，上次超過150人參與，廣受好評。這次別再錯過了！歡迎邀請朋友一起來學習，讓手機成為您生活中的好幫手。
展望未來，11月15日（週六）下午2:00–4:00，我們將舉辦重要的健康講座《你有肌少症嗎？》。隨著年齡增長，肌肉流失（肌少症）會影響長者的行動力與日常生活，甚至提高跌倒與住院的風險。為提升大家的健康意識，我們特別邀請來自台灣、擁有超過30年教學與研究經驗的牛玉珍教授親臨主講。她將分享最新的營養與運動策略，幫助長者預防與逆轉肌少症，重新找回活力與健康。牛教授為國立台灣師範大學健康促進與衛生教育博士，講課風格親切實用、深入淺出，是一場不容錯過的健康講座！

誰把愛放進我口袋

天父的愛給了我滿滿的安全感。我不再依靠自己而是順服、交託，凡事禱告。
最初閱讀聖經時看不懂《約伯記》，不明白為何不是好人有好報？為何義人受逼迫？這顛覆了我以往的信念；我曾視苦難為上天對人的懲罰和咒詛，但約伯在經歷苦難後卻說：「賞賜的是耶和華，收取的也是耶和華；耶和華的名是應當稱頌的。」（約伯記一21）這一切深深打動了我，也改變了我自小的觀念，開始明瞭約伯的經歷—「他試煉我之後，我必如精金。」（約伯記二十三10）
學會討好
我在傳統家庭長大。童年時，哥哥姊姊常拿我開玩笑說，外祖父聽到剛出生的我是個女孩時，滿臉嫌棄地說不如丟掉！懵懂的我當時信以為真。雙親含辛茹苦忙碌工作養家，卻缺乏時間跟我們溝通。漸漸我發現，只有成績好時他們才有空笑着看我。於是單純的我只懂努力讀書來贏取父母看見成績表後對我的一句讚賞。 我不自覺愈發重視別人的評價，更慣於討人喜悅來取得認同，凡事擔心自己做得不夠好，也不懂拒絕別人，以為只要事事順着別人，對方就會重視我。
口袋有愛
我有位自小就認識，心中認定的摯友。多年來她需要幫忙我都義不容辭。可是有次我從姊姊口中得悉，她視我對每個人都好、沒有脾氣是虛偽；她覺得那是虛情假意。那一刻我不知道怎去面對，我一直當為知己的朋友竟這樣看我！自卑和挫敗令我無法控制情緒，徑自走到街上痛哭。 我感到孤單無助，想找紙巾抹眼淚時卻在口袋裏翻出了一張皺巴巴的紙，拉開一看「耶穌愛你」四個大字閃進眼簾。我很激動，哭得更厲害，內心卻感到無比溫暖。如聖經說：「我雖然行過死蔭的幽谷，也不怕遭害，因為你與我同在；你的杖、你的竿，都安慰我。」（詩篇二十三4）我不再孤單！ 這一切彷彿早有安排：在我感覺被傷害、不被愛的時候，天父告訴我祂愛我！祂早已把愛放進了我的口袋裏！原來天父自有奇妙安排，必適時在願意認罪悔改、敬畏祂的人身上成就祂的美意！
天賜轉機
再說我婚後的家。結婚之時，我跟丈夫都沒有宗教信仰。要獨自照顧孩子並面對生活的柴米油鹽，我倍感疲倦。丈夫工作緊張、忙碌，不善溝通的我們總在冷戰，彼此感覺距離遙遠，家裏缺乏溫度。我跟丈夫雖然彼此珍惜，卻都無法靠自己在複雜的情緒中找到出路……就在此時，夫家的人鼓勵他認識天父，而我也開始閱讀聖經。雖然當時孤單無助的感覺未減，但我總感到有股力量讓我不要放棄！ 天父在那年年底賜我們轉機。我們決定要買一對新的婚戒象徵對婚姻的重新承諾，並且開始與孩子一起向天父禱告，祈求祂賜福並帶領我們一家。翌年二月我發現懷上次子。為了迎接新生命到來，我們搬到更大的居所，並在附近找到現在的教會，進而被牧養、受洗加入上帝的家。
穩妥的愛
天父的愛給了我滿滿的安全感。我不再依靠自己而是順服、交託，凡事禱告。我亦嘗試改變自己，更多寬容和支持配偶。儘管無條件接納和不求回報的付出實在不易；然而，正因我們的不完美就更顯出天父愛的完全！我們都在為建立家庭努力時，這家就愈來愈溫暖；看到兩個孩子可愛的笑容時，我們也察覺他們在基督裏的成長。我們這才醒悟過來，明白人生伴侶原是上帝預備的最美祝福！在我被造以先，祂早已把愛放進了我的口袋裏！ 能認識、信靠天父，確實感恩，也期盼更多人能認識福音，經歷天父上帝的大愛！

RE: 2025 Annual Fundraising Appeal
Harvest Haven Community Service Center, founded in May 2004, is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to serving our community with compassion and faith. For over two decades, we’ve provided free and impactful services to seniors, immigrants, families, and anyone in need.
From translation and tax assistance to health seminars, weekly senior meetings, cancer support groups, homeless outreach, and senior outings, our services touch hundreds of lives each year. We also provide over 2,000 free lunches annually at Harvest Haven.
We offer enriching classes in English, computer skills, citizenship, line dancing, knitting, Tai Chi, and Tai Chi sword—supporting wellness in both body and mind. Our new after-school care program provides children with a safe, nurturing, and faith-based environment to grow and thrive.
