June 2026 Newsletter

Dear Harvest Haven Family,
June has arrived with sunshine, energy, and a renewed sense of life. Across our community, children are graduating, families are planning summer activities, and Southern California is preparing to welcome soccer fans from around the world for the 2026 FIFA World Cup. With SoFi Stadium serving as one of the host venues, it is exciting to see such a global event taking place so close to home.
June is also a season that reminds us to cherish each day. For many seniors, the greatest treasures in life are not material things, but meaningful relationships — someone who cares, someone who listens, and opportunities to keep learning, growing, and connecting with others. Perhaps this month you attended a grandchild’s graduation and felt the joy of watching the next generation take another step forward. Moments like these remind us how precious family, community, and faith truly are.
Thank you for your continued support, encouragement, and participation in Harvest Haven. Because of your generosity and service, Harvest Haven continues to be a blessing to seniors, families, children, and neighbors in our community.
A Joyful Evening: Our Second Christian Singles Fellowship

On May 16, Harvest Haven hosted our second Christian Singles Fellowship Dinner, and we were grateful for another warm and encouraging response. A total of 30 single adults joined the evening, along with 10 staff members and volunteers who served throughout the event.
Through interactive games, faith-based conversations, and meaningful sharing about family values, participants had the opportunity to get to know one another in a relaxed and sincere environment. The evening was filled with laughter, conversation, and genuine connection. After the event, many participants asked when the next gathering would be held, and some even suggested future Bible study groups and outdoor fellowship activities.
We are especially thankful to Professor Niu, Anna, Su, Gloria, Lois, Mr. and Mrs. Wang Zhi, Lily, Melody, the knitting class volunteer team, Professor Zou Jian, and all the coworkers who helped make this evening possible. We also appreciate the gentlemen who prepared drinks and fruit, and the ladies who brought delicious snacks to share. Together, they created an atmosphere of warmth, hospitality, and community.
At Harvest Haven, we believe that building healthy marriages and strong families is one of the most meaningful investments we can make for the next generation. We will continue planning future fellowship and marriage-enrichment opportunities to help single adults connect, grow, and build meaningful relationships.
If you know single adults or adult children who may benefit from future gatherings, we warmly invite you to share this opportunity with them.
Mandarin Senior Outdoor Fellowship at Liberty Park

On June 11, our Mandarin senior gathering moved outdoors to Cerritos Liberty Park for a special time of fellowship, music, movement, games, and lunch.
Surrounded by the fresh air and peaceful park setting, everyone enjoyed a beautiful day together. Participants ranged in age from 50 to 100 years old, showing the intergenerational warmth and energy of the Harvest Haven family.
Jenny served as the host and guided the program with ease and joy. Raymond and Wenny thoughtfully prepared songs and games that brought laughter throughout the morning. Becky’s Mexican friend Ruth also led everyone in dancing the Macarena, adding a fun and unexpected highlight to the day.
A special thank-you goes to Daniel for helping transport the meals back and forth between Harvest Haven and the park. His service reflected the heart of teamwork and care that makes our community strong.
This outdoor gathering was more than just a fun activity. It reminded us once again of the importance of companionship, community connection, and creating joyful memories together. We would like to do it every month. Our Seniors love it.
Celebrating The Duanwu Festival with Warmth and Tradition

The fifth day of the fifth month on the lunar calendar, which falls on June 19 this year, marks the Duanwu Festival — one of the most meaningful traditional Chinese holidays.
The Duanwu Festival not only honors the patriotic poet Qu Yuan, but also carries the values of family, gratitude, remembrance, and cultural heritage. For many of us, this holiday brings back memories of home: the fragrance of rice dumplings, family members gathered around the table, and the warmth of preparing and sharing zongzi together.
This year, Harvest Haven prepared traditional zongzi for every participant in both our Mandarin and Cantonese senior gatherings. Our hope is that, while enjoying this meaningful holiday food, everyone will also feel the warmth, care, and love of our community family.
For many seniors who have lived away from their hometowns for many years, a single zongzi is more than food. It carries childhood memories, family traditions, and a deep sense of belonging.
We are deeply grateful to all the loving volunteers who helped with purchasing, preparation, and distribution. Every act of service represents a blessing and a gesture of care for our seniors.
Wishing everyone a happy Duanwu Festival filled with health, peace, and joy.
Upcoming Health Lectures with Professor Niu

One of the most anticipated programs this month is Professor Niu’s Health Lecture Series. Professor Niu has devoted many years to health promotion, senior fitness, and healthy aging. His teaching style is practical, easy to understand, and closely connected to everyday life. Topics will include:
- Preventing sarcopenia and falls
- Senior nutrition and healthy eating
- Daily stretching and flexibility
- Healthy aging and active living
Health is not something we begin caring about only after illness appears. It begins with the choices we make today.
We welcome you to invite family members, friends, and seniors in the community to attend. Dates: Thursday, June 18; Thursday, June 25。
Summer Outing Registration Is Now Open

Harvest Haven’s annual Outing will take place on: Thursday, August 6, 2026
This year, we will visit one of Southern California’s most beloved destinations:
The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens
The Huntington is known for its world-famous Rose Garden, Chinese Garden, Japanese Garden, Desert Garden, art collections, and historical treasures. For many seniors, the most meaningful part of the trip is not only the destination itself, but the opportunity to travel with friends, enjoy conversation, take photos, and share life together. The bus and admission tickets have now been confirmed. Space is limited, and priority registration will be given to Harvest Haven members and senior participants. For details and registration, please contact: Gloria 562-860-8601
Let us walk through the gardens, enjoy the beauty of art and nature, and share a summer day filled with laughter and friendship.
Harvest Haven Pickleball Team Is Forming!

Pickleball, one of the fastest-growing and most popular sports in the United States, is now coming to Harvest Haven! Pickleball combines elements of tennis, badminton, and table tennis. It is easy to learn, fun to play, and especially suitable for middle-aged and older adults. With a moderate level of physical activity, pickleball can help improve heart health, coordination, balance, and overall wellness. It is also a wonderful way to meet new friends and enjoy the fun of being part of a team. To encourage a healthy and active lifestyle, Harvest Haven has invited Joanne to serve as the coordinator as we begin forming the Harvest Haven Pickleball Team. We warmly welcome anyone who is interested to join us! Whether you are:
- A complete beginner who has never played pickleball before
- Someone who has played before and would like to start again
- A senior looking to stay active and meet new friends
- Someone who enjoys team activities and outdoor exercise
You are welcome to be part of this new group. Let’s pick up our paddles, move our bodies, share laughter, and build friendships through this fun and healthy sport. Together, we hope to create a joyful, energetic, and welcoming Harvest Haven Pickleball Team. Registration and Questions Gloria:(562) 860-8601;Joanne (714) 398-6752

Please Pray for Harvest Haven
This season presents both challenges and opportunities for Harvest Haven. For the past 22 years, Harvest Haven Community Service Center has faithfully served thousands of seniors, families, children, and community members through practical care, friendship, education, and compassion. Day after day, year after year, we have sought to be a place where people can find encouragement, connection, and hope.
As we look toward the future, we ask for your prayers and continued support. The needs in our community continue to grow, and so does the opportunity to make a difference. We believe God has entrusted Harvest Haven with a special mission — to serve others with love, dignity, and excellence, and to be a light in our community.
Please pray for God’s wisdom, provision, and guidance as we move forward. We also invite you to partner with us by helping more people learn about Harvest Haven, participating in our programs, volunteering, and supporting our ministry financially when possible. Together, we can continue this mission and ensure that Harvest Haven remains a place of hope, service, and community for generations to come.
